Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai has stated that Indonesia has been nominated for a Guinness World Record as one of the countries delivering the highest volume of human rights education in the world. Speaking during a meeting with Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, Pigai noted that the current record is held by Uruguay, with 3,000 police officers having undertaken human rights training. According to Pigai, the Ministry of Human Rights, in just one region alone, has managed to provide training to 6,000 participants, a figure twice as large as Uruguay’s. He is therefore optimistic that the record can be taken over by Indonesia. Pigai said, ‘The current world record holder is Uruguay, from 2018, with 3,000 Uruguayan police officers conducting human rights education, and now we, in North Sumatra alone, have trained 6,000 in one session. Because of this, Indonesia is likely to receive a global award as the Ministry that carries out human rights education in such large numbers.’ Pigai mentioned that the expansion of human rights education is a commitment of his ministry, considering that not everyone may understand the definition of human rights. He explained that the term human rights has so far been largely perceived only in relation to violation cases.
