Pig Feast Documentary Leads to Police Report as Production Team Questions Mama Sinta's Shift in Stance

Disputes over the documentary ‘Pig Feast’ have intensified after Yasinta Moiwend, an indigenous woman and environmental activist from Merauke, South Papua, known as Mama Sinta, filed a police report against JTW, Chairman of LBH Merauke, with the Jakarta Metropolitan Police. Amid ongoing legal proceedings, the Pig Feast Film Collaboration Team has issued an official statement. They stated they respect Mama Sinta’s legal action but are seeking to understand the reasons behind her changed stance. The collaboration team, comprising Ekspedisi Indonesia Baru, Greenpeace Indonesia, Jubi Media, LBH Papua Merauke, Pusaka Bentala Rakyat, and Watchdoc, affirmed that Mama Sinta has long been a consistent advocate for the rights of the Malind indigenous community. ‘Mama Yasinta Moiwend is a Malind indigenous woman who has long fought for herself and her community long before the documentary was made,’ the collaboration team said in a statement dated 2 June 2026. They stressed they do not wish the public to judge or vilify Mama Sinta for her legal action, but instead to understand the situation following her public video statement on 23 May 2026 leading to the police report filed on 29 May 2026. Meanwhile, the collaboration team urged public attention not only on the legal dispute but also on the broader issues faced by Papua’s indigenous communities. ‘We hope for public support on this matter while continuing solidarity to resolve the significant challenges in Papua,’ they added. Previously reported, Mama Sinta formally took the documentary issue to court, reporting JTW for allegedly using her image without consent. The police report was registered under case number LP/B/3843/V/2026/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya dated 29 May 2026.
