Pig distribution in Bali ahead of Hari Raya is suspected to have leaked, resulting in a drop in local pork prices. The suspicion of pig distribution leakage emerged in a closed hearing (RDP) of Commission II of the Bali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) with the Bali Provincial Government and the regency/city administrations. Chairman of Commission II of the Bali DPRD, Ajus Linggih, explained that the meeting was convened to ensure the availability of pig stocks in the community as demand increases ahead of the festival. However, during the discussions, many farmers and association representatives complained about field practices that are deemed uncontrolled and poorly supervised. “In the meeting earlier, there were many complaints about leakage in the field. This is not only about pigs, but cattle as well. Numerous violations that ultimately distort the market price for Bali’s farmers,” Ajus Linggih said when met at the Bali DPRD Building, on Wednesday (4 March 2026). One of the issues highlighted, according to Ajus Linggih, is the livestock partnership model operated by PT Karya Prospek Satwa (KPS), including the distribution of pigs. The corporation could obtain cheaper prices, while small farmers cannot compete. Consequently, this undermines the floor price for local farmers. Meanwhile, Bali’s Department of Agriculture and Food Security (Distan-Pangan) and the regencies/cities have not had direct coordination with PT KPS. In fact, every shipment of livestock out of the region should be under the supervision and licensing of Distan-Pangan Bali. “The reason is that the company claims they do not know where their livestock is being taken. Yet checking clients’ licences is an obligation, especially for B2B business,” Ajus Linggih asserted. According to Ajus Linggih, the indications of pig meat leakage point to smuggling due to weak licensing oversight. Nevertheless, Ajus Linggih stated that there are no exact figures yet regarding losses arising from the leakage of pork distribution ahead of Hari Raya in Bali. The Golkar Party politician disclosed that the Bali Provincial Government will establish rules on local produce and Bali’s local products and intends to accelerate the formation of a regional-owned food enterprise (BUMD) to address the issue. “The aim is so that corporations and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) farmers can both survive,” Ajus Linggih said.
