Pidie village heads resign en masse

SIGLI, Aceh: About 360 of the 948 village chiefs in the Pidie regency have submitted their official stamp, a sign that they have resigned their administrative duties.

The assistant secretary of the provincial administration, Abdullah Daud, confirmed on Wednesday that he had received an oral report, but declined to reveal how many of the village heads had resigned.

"We still don't know if it was done as a protest, or if there is some element of politics involved," he said.

"No matter what the administration is still running."

According to various sources contacted, the village chiefs in 23 districts felt they could no longer effectively run their respective villages given the climate of uncertainty as a result of the security disturbances. (51)
