Pickup Driver Who Rammed DPR Gate Arrested, Suspected of Acting While Drunk
A pickup truck rammed the Pancasila Gate at the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) complex in Senayan, Jakarta, during a protest. Police have arrested the driver of the pickup truck.
Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said a sharp weapon was found in the pickup truck. He said the vehicle came from Jember, East Java.
“I can confirm that a pickup truck attempted to break through, rammed the gate, and injured security personnel serving the protest. The individual has been detained, and a sharp weapon was found. The vehicle came from the Jember area,” Budi said at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (28/8/2026).
Regarding whether the driver is connected to a mass organisation, Budi said police investigators are still looking into the matter.
“This is still being investigated,” he said.
When he rammed the gate, the driver is suspected to have been drunk. The pickup driver was under the influence of alcohol when he was detained.
“Yes, when he was found, the individual was still under the influence of alcohol,” he said.
Video of the vehicle ramming the Pancasila Gate circulated on social media. A number of security personnel at the scene were seen nearly being hit by the pickup truck. The vehicle was then secured and brought to a stop.
