A pickup carrying used cooking oil crashed into the back of a lorry on Jalan Sholeh Iskandar (Sholis) in Bogor city, trapping the driver in the cab. The crash was believed to have been caused by the driver being drowsy.

“Police suspect the driver of the Suzuki Carry was careless and lost concentration while driving, experiencing microsleep or drowsiness, and consequently hit a Mitsubishi Colt Diesel that was stopped on the right-hand side of the road,” Bogor City Police Traffic Unit law enforcement officer Iptu Susilo said on Sunday (18 October 2026).

Bogor City Fire and Rescue Department head of firefighting and rescue, M Ade Nugraha, said the cause was believed to be similar. Ade and his team moved to evacuate the victim at the scene.

“While travelling along Jalan Sholeh Iskandar, the driver was suspected of being drowsy, causing the vehicle to hit the lorry in front. The impact trapped the driver at the front of the vehicle, around the steering wheel,” Ade said separately.

The pickup driver, named Wali, was safely freed by the fire and rescue team. He suffered minor injuries to his leg and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Ade said the crash occurred at about 3.34am as Wali was driving the pickup to transport used cooking oil to a warehouse. At the scene, the pickup hit a broken-down lorry, trapping the driver in the cab until fire and rescue officers freed him.

“After receiving the report, officers responded and carried out the operation to free the victim who was trapped as a result of the crash,” Ade said.
