Physical Limitations Are Not a Barrier: The Trail of Disability Empowerment Through PNM Mekaar

Physical limitations are often seen as a major obstacle, but for Ibu Irma, a PNM Mekaar customer in Gunungleutik, Ciparay Subdistrict, Bandung Regency, it is not the end of the struggle. As a woman with a disability, she proves that physical condition is not a reason to be passive, but rather motivation to move forward and be productive.

PNM’s commitment to empowering underprivileged women without discrimination provides space for Ibu Irma to develop her potential and share her knowledge and spirit with fellow disabled individuals in her neighbourhood, a step aligned with broader inclusive and economic empowerment movements.

Ibu Irma’s empowerment journey has not been easy, but she continues to show extraordinary determination.

“Even though there are many limitations, we must be strong and equal to others, don’t expect pity, must be spirited to sell, must be independent, don’t be dependent. Don’t stay at home and lack confidence. We must help each other and have a strong desire rather than staying idle with no activities. We prove to them that we can, even though we are often ostracised because I have felt that too,” said Ibu Irma, describing her strong determination to change stigma and open opportunities for other disabled people to create and be productive.

The benefits spread by Ibu Irma are directly felt by one of the disabled individuals she mentors nearby, Iis. “I love and am happy to be cared for by Ibu Irma, so I feel I can be more meaningful,” said Iis.

This statement is real proof that the impact of Ibu Irma’s mentoring is not only economic but also provides strong psychosocial encouragement to the disabled community in the area.

Dodot Patria Ary, PNM’s Corporate Secretary, stated that the empowerment steps exemplified by Ibu Irma reflect PNM Mekaar’s commitment to creating an inclusive and sustainable entrepreneurship ecosystem.

He emphasised that empowering the disabled through business mentoring, training, and financing access is part of PNM’s strategy to ensure every underprivileged mother has equal opportunities to develop in line with PNM’s spirit of Growing, Caring, and Inspiring.
