PHRI Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) has reported stagnant hotel bookings during the Waisak and June 1 long weekends, with occupancy rates failing to meet industry targets.

PHRI DIY Chairman Deddy Pranowo Eryono stated that hotel occupancy on 27-28 May 2026 was between 30% and 40%, rising to 45%-60% from 29-31 May.

“From the 27th to 28th, PHRI data shows occupancy at 30-40%. There’s an increase from the 29th to 31st, with reservations reaching 45-60%,” Deddy told journalists on Friday, 29 May 2026.

Despite the rise in bookings towards the long weekend, Deddy noted the situation remains similar to previous May long weekends.

“Stagnant. We had targeted 85%, but only achieved 75-80% during the last two long weekends. The reservations appear stagnant,” he said.

He attributed the decline to reduced consumer purchasing power affecting tourism and hotel stays.

“Probably due to lower consumer purchasing power and other factors,” he added.

PHRI DIY noted highest bookings in Yogyakarta City and Sleman Regency. In central Yogyakarta, including Malioboro area, reservations reached 80% for 29-31 May.

“The central area’s reservations are at 80% now, especially Malioboro and surroundings,” he explained.

Hotel bookings are expected to peak on Saturday, 30 May, with occupancy around 60%.

“Long weekends usually peak on Saturday. On the 30th, reservations could reach 60%,” he said.

By Monday, 1 June, reservations drop as tourists return home ahead of Tuesday’s work resumption.

“On the 1st, people start returning. Reservations are only at 30%,” he concluded.
