PHR Zone 4 records 27,500 BOPD production in first half of 2026

Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) Zone 4 recorded oil production of 27,500 barrels per day (BOPD) in the first half of 2026, amidst efforts to enhance the performance of mature oil and gas fields. General Manager of PHR Zone 4 Djudjuwanto stated that the company also booked gas production of 506 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) during the January to June 2026 period. “Throughout the first semester of 2026, PHR Zone 4 has continued to optimise various strategies to maintain and increase oil and gas production to support national energy security,” he said. He explained that as of 30 June 2026, the company had realised 27 development well drilling work plans. These activities resulted in additional oil production of 1,549 BOPD, equivalent to 125 per cent of the year-to-date target set in the 2026 Work Programme and Budget. One of the main challenges in managing long-producing oil and gas fields is the natural production decline due to reduced reservoir pressure and depleting hydrocarbon reserves. To address this, PHR Zone 4 is implementing various strategies, including step-out drilling, which involves drilling outside proven productive areas to assess the sustainability potential of surrounding reservoirs. “The grand idea behind the drilling conducted by PHR Zone 4 is that each drilling operation not only yields production but also opens opportunities for new reserve discoveries to support the company’s operational sustainability and future national energy security,” he explained. In 2026, PHR Zone 4 plans step-out drilling in four Pertamina EP fields: Adera Field, Prabumulih Field, Ramba Field, and Limau Field. The programme is targeted to add oil production of 209 BOPD and gas of 0.04 MMSCFD. Additionally, the company is applying the dual completion method in four wells at Adera Field and Prabumulih Field. This method enables production from two reservoirs through a single well, thereby increasing field development efficiency. The implementation of dual completion is targeted to provide additional production of 325 BOPD of oil and 2.43 MMSCFD of gas. Overall, in 2026 PHR Zone 4 is targeting the execution of 100 development drilling work plans with additional oil production reaching 4,479 BOPD. Besides developing new wells, maintenance of existing wells is also being optimised to suppress the rate of natural production decline. Each field leader is tasked with maintaining the natural decline rate in the range of 15 to 20 per cent by improving the performance of artificial lifts, surface facilities, and other production assets. “Thus, when new well development is successful, production will increase, not merely offset the natural decline,” he said. He added that the production increase is accompanied by strengthening the health, safety, security, and environment (HSSE) culture through the application of the Stop Work Authority principle, which empowers every worker to halt operations if potentially hazardous conditions are identified. “HSSE is an investment, not an obstacle to operations. We have found that improved HSSE discipline in Zone 4 goes hand in hand with increased production,” Djudjuwanto said.
