PHR records production of 2,128 barrels per day from new S-type well
PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) has recorded production of 2,128 barrels per day from a new S-type infill directional well, MESO#22, at the Menggala South field in Rokan Hilir Regency, Riau Province. According to well test results, the MESO#22 well also produced oil with a low water cut of around 25 percent from total fluid of 2,853 barrels of fluid per day.
General Manager of PHR Rokan Zone, Andre Wijanarko, said the success of MESO#22 provides a very significant production addition for PHR Rokan Zone. He said it reflects PHR’s commitment to supporting national energy security through its drilling programme while maintaining strict cost discipline and upholding operational safety.
He explained that drilling of the MESO#22 well, which reached a depth of 3,920 ftMD, began with spudding using Rig GW-336 on 16 July 2026. The entire drilling operation was completed through rig release on 29 July 2026.
One of the main challenges was a change in trajectory profile from the previous J-type to an S-type, which has a much higher level of difficulty. In addition to the trajectory, the PHR team also faced potential sloughing shale, or unstable shale layers prone to collapsing.
The MESO#22 well was completed in a total actual time of 29.04 days, including rig moving, initial completion, and non-productive time, compared with the initial plan of 24.2 days.
Currently, oil production from MESO#22 has been flowed to the MESO Gathering Station. The entire fluid flow and operational process continues to prioritise work safety, facility integrity, and a full commitment to reliable and safe operations.
Andre Wijanarko said that going forward, PHR will continue to be committed to carrying out various operational optimisation and innovation measures safely, reliably, and efficiently. He expressed confidence that through solid collaboration and the dedication of all workers and partners in the field, PHR can continue to provide its best contribution to the smooth supply of national energy.
