PHR Hits 151,500 BPD in 2025, Becomes Indonesia's Largest Oil Producer

PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan (PHR) recorded crude oil production of 151,500 barrels per day (bpd) throughout 2025, making the company the largest oil producer in Indonesia with a significant contribution to the national energy supply. PHR President Director Muhammad Arifin stated that the company’s main strategy is currently focused on maintaining production levels from mature fields. He noted that PHR is working hard to curb the natural decline rate in the Rokan Block while pursuing new growth opportunities. ‘PHR Rokan in 2025 was able to achieve production of 151,500 barrels of oil per day, which we know makes it the largest producer in Indonesia. Thank God, we can contribute 24-25% of Indonesia’s production and also for Pertamina we account for up to 33%,’ he said in the CNBC Indonesia Energy Corner programme, quoted on Monday (13/7/2026). For PHR, managing old oil wells like those in Rokan requires extra effort due to the complex development process. Beyond maintaining its existing production base, PHR is also entering the non-conventional oil and gas business, which is projected to be a future driver of production. ‘New businesses, new fields that we are really relying on, MNK, Rokan is daring to be a pioneer. We carried out exploration drilling in 2023-2024 and in 2025 we analysed all the data, and now, God willing, we are preparing for appraisal well drilling,’ he explained. PHR has already drilled the first two non-conventional wells, Gulamo and Kelok, with resource findings claimed to be among the largest in the last decade. The discovery is expected to be validated in terms of volume so it can make a real contribution to national oil and gas production. ‘Thank God, the 2C findings, the resources are quite large and in the last 10 years it is among the largest in oil fields, at nearly 740 million barrels of oil equivalent. Hopefully, this MNK field in Rokan can contribute up to a peak of 40 to 50 thousand barrels of oil per day for the country,’ he said. He added that the first appraisal well drilling is targeted for December 2026. ‘Currently we still use a lot of technology from abroad, hopefully with the formation of an ecosystem, everything that was previously from abroad can be developed and cultivated in Indonesia,’ he concluded. To date, PHR contributes up to 25% of national oil production with a domestic component level exceeding 65%.
