Photo expo on RI, UK culture

JAKARTA (JP): Photographs depicting education and culture in Britain and Indonesia are to be displayed in a week-long exhibition beginning on Saturday in the lobby of the World Trade Center on Jl. Sudirman, Central Jakarta.

The photographs were taken by two British and two Indonesian photographers during exchange visits to each others' countries, according to British Council, the organizers.

The opening ceremony of the Face to Face: Indonesia and Britain exhibition was held last night at the venue.

The council's arts and publicity officer, Markus S. Hadipurnomo, said the exhibition was "the culmination of a series of activities in the field of photography" organized by the council to commemorate its 50th anniversary in Indonesia, which falls this year.

The activities included a competition, a workshop and the exchange program, he added.

Hariyanto from Panji Masyarakat weekly and Andi Kurniawan Lubis from Medan's Analisa daily were selected and dispatched to Britain to document culture and education in the West Country, Teeside, Newcastle, Edinburgh and London.

Their British counterparts, Lucy Davies and Tina Norris, both of whom are freelance photographers, were sent to record similar scenes in Java and Bali. (46)
