Photo exhibition at Erasmus Huis

JAKARTA (JP): The World Press Photo foundation will kick off
an exhibition of photos depicting the world's most outstanding
events of 1997 at Erasmus Huis on Jl. H.R. Rasuna Said in South
Jakarta on Wednesday.

The exhibition, which is being jointly held with the Suara
Pembaruan evening daily, will display the winning photos of the
World Press Photo's annual championship.

The event, the eighth ever held by the foundation, will be
inaugurated by Suara Pembaruan's general manager Albert Hasibuan,
the foundation said in a statement.

After the show in Jakarta, the exhibition will travel to
Yogyakarta, Semarang and Surabaya.

The exhibition, held annually in 65 locations in 35 countries,
is aimed at increasing public awareness of press photography and
at promoting the free flow information throughout the world.

The 44-year-old World Press Photo foundation is an independent
body representing international press photography. (ivy)
