ISLAMIC NEW YEAR PREPARATIONS: Two women wash tauge (bean
sprouts) at the banks of Ngerong River in Rengel village, Tuban
regency, East Java, before they take them to market to sell at Rp
3,000 per kilogram. Demand for tauge increases every time the
Ngerong resort area hosts the annual traditional Javanese
ceremony Nyadran to mark the arrival of the Islamic New Year,
which falls on March 15 this year.
