WE MADE IT: Minister of Defense/Armed Forces (ABRI) Commander
Gen. Wiranto (right) listens attentively to Harry Sabarno,
chairman of the ABRI faction at the House of Representatives. On
Wednesday they attended the faction leaders' lobby meeting over
the number of House seats for ABRI. The factions finally agreed
to give 38 unelected seats to the military after drawn-out
debates.

THE STATE OF CIVIL SERVANTS: Coordinating Minister for
Development Supervision and State Administrative Reforms Hartarto
(left) briefs the press on the political stance of civil servants
at the Bina Graha presidential office. Hartarto, accompanied by
Minister of Information Muhammad Yunus (center), and Deputy
Cabinet Secretary Herman Rajaguguk, revealed on Wednesday that
civil servants who wanted to become members of political parties
would be freed from duty, but would retain their status and
receive a monthly salary, regular wage increases and other
benefits.
