TOLL-ROAD PROJECT: A soil stabilizer flattens a plot of land for
the construction of the Palimanan-Kanci toll road in Cirebon
regency, West Java. Construction initially started in January
1998 and is scheduled for completion at the end of this year. The
toll road is expected to reduce traffic congestion during the
annual exodus of holiday-makers in West Java's northern coastal
area.

VILLAGE FOR WORKERS: A clearing is being made in the middle of a
forest for the construction of a workers' village in Bintuni Bay,
Papua province. The workers are being moved from their current
homes as a result of a planned US$2 billion liquefied natural gas
plant belonging to BP, the British energy giant.
