Corning, the United States-based materials technology company, has announced a new protective glass for devices, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3. The Gorilla Glass protection glass from the Gorilla Glass line was announced by Corning via its official site on Monday, 2 March 2026. According to Corning, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 is designed to provide better durability during device use. ‘We engineered our materials with wear life in mind, not just initial performance,’ said Lori Hamilton, Vice President of the Gorilla Glass Division & Business Technology Director. The US-based company recognises that consumer devices are frequently exposed to various hard surfaces and can scratch screens, so they conducted tests with realistic scenarios. For instance, Corning evaluated the coating layer’s material on different surfaces that replicate real-world conditions to assess the durability of its accessory for everyday use. For Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3, testing showed that its performance exceeds that of drops, as it can survive drops from heights of more than two metres onto surfaces resembling concrete. This surface is regarded as the most challenging for consumer devices. The tests serve as evidence that devices can withstand the risk of accidental damage during daily use. Additional tests involved repeated drop tests. The results show that Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 can survive at least after 20 drops from a height of one metre onto a surface resembling asphalt. In the same post, Corning emphasised that Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 will debut on the foldable Motorola Razr Fold, which was introduced at CES 2026, according to KompasTekno’s compilation of Corning’s official site. The practice is notable because usually Corning’s new protective glass debuts on non-foldable smartphones. For example, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 debuted on the Galaxy S25 Edge. Corning has not disclosed which other smartphones will adopt the new protective glass. Clearly, this accessory will soon complement smartphones already on the market. We will have to wait and see.
