While the government is making progress in talks with the MILF, extremists seem determined to stay on the offensive. The ongoing peace negotiations between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) face serious obstacles.
Today, there is a growing concern that the slow pace of the negotiations may undermine the MILFs confidence in the Philippine government in spite of the fact that tremendous ground has been gained.
Manila must make more of an effort to demonstrate that its fight against terrorism is not a war on Islam. It is essential that all sides, regardless of ethnicity and religion, see themselves as stakeholders in the outcome of this fight against terrorism. -- The Nation, Bangkok
