Philippine bus crash kills 21

MANILA (Reuters): A bus fell into a 40-foot ravine in the mountainous province of Benguet north of Manila, killing 21 people and injuring 32, police said on Thursday.

More than 55 passengers were on the bus travelling on Wednesday from San Fernando la Union town to Baguio City. It plunged into the ravine when its brakes failed while negotiating a curve on the winding highway, police said.

Rescuers had to use ropes to reach survivors in the ravine, they said.
