PHI encourages media role in building understanding of upstream oil and gas industry
PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia (PHI) is encouraging the strategic role of the media in building accurate and balanced public understanding regarding companies within the upstream oil and gas industry.
According to the Manager of Communication Relations & CID at PHI, Dony Indrawan, in Jakarta, the role of the media extends beyond merely conveying information about the company and industry developments; it also serves to educate the public on the role of energy in daily life and Indonesia’s national development.
“Amidst industry dynamics and the operational, financial, and business challenges faced by the company, the media serves as an effective tool for public education to build understanding and support from all stakeholders, including local governments and the community, towards the national upstream oil and gas industry,” said Dony during the ‘Bincang Asik Soal Migas ala PHI’ (BASO IGA PHI) programme.
The recent BASO IGA PHI event also served as the peak moment for the 2026 Kalimantan Energy Journalist Appreciation (APEKA) through the presentation of awards to journalists who produced the best journalistic works.
Dony emphasised that journalistic works produced by reporters help present a broader and more positive perspective to the public regarding how energy is explored, produced, managed, and distributed, thereby providing benefits for community energy needs and national energy security.
During the event, Abi Muhammad Nugraha from the PHI Compliance Team presented the Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP) as part of PHI’s efforts to strengthen good corporate governance and enhance media understanding, as a stakeholder, regarding the importance of integrity in every business process.
”Through the implementation of SNI ISO 30001:2016, we continue to promote a culture of integrity by not tolerating any form of bribery, applying the ‘4 No’s’ principle—No Bribery, No Kickback, No Gift, and No Luxurious Hospitality—and ensuring that business processes run in accordance with applicable regulations,” said Abi.
He added that the implementation of SMAP is not merely the responsibility of a specific function but requires the active role of all employees and stakeholders.
“We continue to encourage all parties to work together to prevent potential bribery, including preventing conflicts of interest, conducting due diligence, and protecting whistleblowers regarding alleged violations,” Abi added.
PT Pertamina Hulu Indonesia is part of Pertamina’s Upstream Subholding, managing upstream oil and gas operations and businesses in Kalimantan Regional 3, covering Zones 8, 9, and 10, in accordance with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
In 2025, PHI recorded oil and gas production of 58,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD) and 630 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD).
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Energy and Mining Editor Society (E2S), Azis Husaini, appreciated PHI for its continuous openness in providing factual and accountable information to the media.
