PHI Alam Lestari, a subsidiary of Pelangi Hotel Internasional (PHI Group), has entered into a strategic partnership with UK-based multinational company Agasco Ltd to develop nature-based carbon solutions projects and sustainable ecotourism initiatives across various regions of Indonesia. The agreement was signed by PHI Alam Lestari CEO Donny Pur and Agasco Ltd CEO Ben Atkinson at Hotel Mulia Senayan, Jakarta.

This collaboration follows a series of working visits coordinated with Indonesia’s Ministry of Forestry, received directly by Minister of Forestry Raja Juli Antoni. The partnership represents an initial step towards building a business model that integrates environmental conservation with global economic value.

PHI Alam Lestari CEO Donny Pur stated that the partnership aims to leverage Indonesia’s exceptional ecosystem wealth, enabling the management of forest areas to generate globally recognised carbon value and sustainability benefits beyond purely economic orientation. “Indonesia has extraordinary ecosystem wealth. Collaboration with Agasco opens opportunities for regional management to not only be economically focused, but also produce carbon value and sustainability recognised globally,” Pur said on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.

Indonesia holds a strategically important position in the global carbon economy map due to its extensive tropical forests. Ben Atkinson, a veteran in international carbon trading who leads Agasco Ltd, identified Indonesia as one of the world’s strongest nations in terms of natural capital. “Through our partnership with PHI Alam Lestari, we aim to develop carbon projects that are credible, measurable, and deliver tangible benefits for the environment and communities,” Atkinson said.

Agasco Ltd, based in London, brings international experience in developing dozens of emission reduction projects across multiple countries. Through its subsidiary, PT Agasco Indonesia, the company is committed to ensuring Indonesia’s forest potential is managed professionally to deliver optimal economic value for the nation.

PHI Alam Lestari Executive Director Ade Swargo explained that following this kick-off, the team will immediately proceed to project mapping and carbon methodology development phases in priority areas across Java and Sumatra. PT Agasco Indonesia Managing Director Made Hariyantha emphasised that the global carbon market is growing rapidly, requiring Indonesia to take an active role as a principal player rather than a mere observer.

Donny Pur added that the partnership also strengthens the business ecosystem of PHI Group, traditionally strong in the hospitality and tourism sectors. “This makes our business lines more comprehensive and beneficial for the future of Indonesia’s forests,” he concluded. Throughout 2025, the group has been notably active in expanding into ecosystem-based area development and tourism destination initiatives within the country.
