PHC Assists Evacuation of Chinese Tourist Who Drowned at Long Beach, Padar Island
Padar Heritage Conservation (PHC) assisted in the evacuation of a Chinese tourist who drowned in the Long Beach area of Padar Island on Tuesday (25/8). PHC deployed the speedboat Matahari 7 to the location to provide assistance and evacuation support.
“We received information about the emergency at around 09.40 WITA from one of the kiosk traders near the scene. At that time, the tourist was receiving initial treatment in the form of CPR from other tourists at the location. Our team immediately moved to the site to provide assistance,” said PHC Public Relations officer Yoanna Daely in a statement on Wednesday (26/8/2026).
The PHC team also coordinated with Basarnas and the water police in handling the emergency. The tourist involved in the incident was identified as Zou Huarong, a Chinese national.
As the tourist’s condition required further medical treatment, the PHC team then transported the victim to Labuan Bajo for evacuation and medical care.
“During the journey to Labuan Bajo, CPR was continuously performed by the PHC team together with a tourist who had medical competence and was also on the journey,” Yoanna added.
The PHC speedboat arrived and docked in Labuan Bajo at around 11.10 WITA. Upon arrival at the port, teams from Basarnas, the water police, Pamobvit, and KSOP were ready to assist with the handling and evacuation process.
The tourist was then immediately taken to hospital for further medical treatment.
Tourist Safety at Long Beach
Following the incident, PHC, which operates under the auspices of the Artha Graha Foundation and partners with the Komodo National Park Office, is paying special attention to safety aspects in the Long Beach area.
According to PHC, safety in the area needs to be a shared concern, especially since similar incidents have reportedly occurred several times.
“We believe this situation needs to be a matter of joint attention and evaluation, particularly regarding the arrangement of safety aspects, preparedness, and emergency response standards in the Long Beach area,” said Yoanna.
As tourism activity in the area increases, PHC considers it necessary to improve safety arrangements at Long Beach. This is needed so that the area has adequate readiness to receive tourist activity.
According to PHC, the safety and security of tourists should be a shared concern and priority for all relevant parties.
PHC hopes that the evaluation can be followed up promptly through concrete measures on the ground. In this way, potential risks can be minimised and similar incidents are expected not to recur.
Better preventive efforts and preparedness are expected to create safer and more comfortable tourism activities for all tourists.
