Pharmaceutical Industry Begins Implementing Green Operations

Sustainable operations are gaining greater attention in the pharmaceutical industry. One example is the utilisation of renewable energy and the strengthening of medicine distribution systems that meet regulatory standards. PT Anugerah Pharmindo Lestari (APL), a Zuellig Pharma company, recently hosted a visit from the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) at its National Distribution Center (NDC) in Cikarang. During the visit, BPOM inspected the medicine distribution facilities that have implemented Good Medicine Distribution Practice (CDOB) standards and a 2D barcode system in accordance with BPOM regulations. The BPOM delegation also reviewed the solar power plant (PLTS) used by APL to improve energy efficiency while reducing operational emissions. The activity concluded with a tree-planting ceremony as a symbol of commitment to environmental preservation. APL President Director Christophe Piganiol stated that collaboration between regulators and industry is necessary to strengthen a reliable healthcare ecosystem. He noted that the company continues to integrate sustainability principles into its operations while expanding public access to healthcare. ‘We remain committed to achieving operational excellence while integrating sustainability principles into every aspect of our operations,’ Christophe said in a press release on Tuesday (7/7/2026). APL is also expanding public access to innovative health products through distribution, commercialisation, and clinical trial support services. One such product is Tirzepatide, an innovative therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity. BPOM plays a role in accelerating access to this therapy through an expedited registration mechanism, ensuring the product is promptly available while meeting safety, quality, and clinical integrity standards. BPOM Head Taruna Ikrar said the synergy between regulators and industry aims to ensure the public obtains safe, efficacious, and high-quality health products. He assessed that the implementation of distribution standards, the development of innovative therapies, and sustainable operational practices can strengthen the resilience of the national health industry. ‘We appreciate APL’s commitment to maintaining high standards in health product distribution, bringing innovative therapies to Indonesia, and integrating sustainability principles into the company’s operations,’ Taruna said.
