Pharmaceutical Industry Begins Implementing Green Operations
Sustainable operations are gaining significant attention within the pharmaceutical industry. Key initiatives include the utilisation of renewable energy and the strengthening of drug distribution systems that meet regulatory standards.
PT Anugerah Pharmindo Lestari (APL), a Zuellig Pharma company, recently hosted a visit from the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) at its National Distribution Centre (NDC) in Cikarang. During the visit, BPOM inspected drug distribution facilities that have implemented Good Distribution Practice (CDOB) standards, as well as the implementation of 2D barcode systems in accordance with BPOM regulations.
The BPOM delegation also inspected the solar power plant (PLTS) facilities used by APL as an effort to increase energy efficiency and reduce operational emissions. The visit concluded with a tree-planting ceremony to symbolise a commitment to environmental preservation.
APL President Director Christophe Piganiol stated that collaboration between regulators and industry players is essential to strengthen a reliable healthcare service ecosystem. He noted that the company continues to integrate sustainability principles into its operations while expanding public access to healthcare services.

APL is also expanding public access to innovative health products through distribution services, commercialisation, and clinical trial support. One such example is Tirzepatide, an innovative therapy for type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity.
BPOM plays a role in accelerating access to such therapies through expedited registration mechanisms, ensuring products are available promptly while still meeting safety, quality, and clinical integrity standards.
Head of BPOM, Taruna Ikrar, stated that the synergy between regulators and industry aims to ensure the public receives safe, effective, and high-quality health products. He assessed that the implementation of distribution standards, the development of innovative therapies, and sustainable operational practices can strengthen the resilience of the national health industry.
