PGRI Jambi supports PP Tunas: Parents' role is key
The Chairman of PGRI in Jambi Province, Nanang Sunarya, has expressed support for the implementation of Government Regulation (PP) Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Organisers in Child Protection (PP Tunas). Parents are key in the policy to restrict digital access for underage children through digital realm protection regulations, said Nanang Sunarya in Jambi on Saturday. “The implementation of PP Tunas is a strategic step under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto. This is evidence of the state’s presence in protecting children as assets for the nation’s future,” he stated. According to him, the policy is not seen as a total ban, but rather a strategic step by the state to mitigate high risks in the virtual world. However, strict restrictions are imposed on certain platforms deemed inappropriate for children under 16 years old. The cultural figure and educator added that child protection must be a collective responsibility, not just the state’s duty through regulations alone. Considering the current phenomenon, many parents are also trapped in social media addiction, so if parents do not set a good example, children tend to imitate that behaviour. Because, the role of parents as the “first fortress” at home cannot be replaced by anyone. He hopes that through the Child Protection Law (UU Tunas), the future of children in Jambi and Indonesia in general can avoid the destructive impacts of unsupervised digital transformation. “We must prepare instruments on how attractive public social spaces for children to socialise with peers, engage in positive activities, and express their potential in public spaces, so they are not individualistic,” he explained.
