PGN to Boost Gas Supply from Sengeti Field in Jambi

PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk. (PGN) plans to increase its natural gas supply by utilising sources from the Sengeti Field in Muaro, Jambi, which has been classified as stranded gas. The gas supply from this field will be integrated into PGN’s existing gas pipeline network. PGN Corporate Secretary Fajriyah Usman explained that the Sengeti Field is estimated to be able to supply around 5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). “Utilising stranded gas is one of PGN’s strategies to provide natural gas supply for domestic customers,” she said in a written statement on Monday, 22 June 2026. The additional gas supply from Sengeti is targeted to start flowing by the fourth quarter of 2028 at the earliest. The gas will be used to meet the needs of industrial customers and power plants in the Sumatra region. Fajriyah stated that utilising stranded gas is one of the company’s strategies to maintain the reliability of natural gas supply. “PGN ensures the readiness of infrastructure and commercial aspects in accordance with applicable standards and regulations,” she said. According to her, this project provides added value for the company through the development of a gas processing business at the field. In addition to increasing domestic energy supply, this project has the potential to boost state revenue, support the development of new gas fields, and strengthen long-term national energy security. The optimisation of gas fields previously deemed uneconomical is expected to help the government increase national gas lifting while simultaneously encouraging investment and oil and gas exploration activities. Fajriyah emphasised that PGN will continue to develop gas supply sources from various domestic origins to maintain the reliability of energy distribution for customers. “The Sengeti Field represents a synergistic collaboration with government support and all stakeholders to provide benefits for the people of Indonesia,” she said.
