PGN to Add 5 Million Cubic Feet of Gas Supply from Sengeti Field
PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN), as the Gas Subholding of Pertamina, plans to secure additional natural gas supply by utilising stranded gas, particularly from the Sengeti Field. Corporate Secretary of PGN, Fajriyah Usman, stated that this strategic move is tangible proof of PGN’s commitment to providing energy solutions to maintain national energy security. Leveraging its capabilities, including integrated gas infrastructure, PGN is taking a role in exploiting gas sources from fields previously deemed less economical (stranded gas). PGN bridges existing challenges by integrating the supply potential from the Sengeti Field into PGN’s gas distribution network. The potential gas supply from the Sengeti Field is approximately 5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD). This additional supply is projected to begin flowing as early as the fourth quarter of 2028, to meet the energy needs of industrial customers and power plants. This breakthrough is also expected to contribute to state revenue and support the government in developing gas fields, as well as ensuring the security of sustainable natural gas supply for domestic needs. “Utilising stranded gas is one of PGN’s strategies in efforts to provide natural gas supply to all domestic customers amidst challenges. Gas from the Sengeti Field will add to the piped gas supply. PGN ensures the readiness of infrastructure and commercial aspects in accordance with applicable standards and regulations,” Fajriyah said in a written statement on Monday (22/6/2026). Furthermore, Fajriyah mentioned that the utilisation of gas from the Sengeti Field also provides added value for the company, one of which is from the development of gas processing business at the field. PGN’s achievement in utilising gas from the Sengeti Field is expected to have a positive domino effect for all stakeholders. The utilisation of gas from a field previously considered unattractive is hoped to support the government’s target of increasing natural gas lifting while spurring investment attractiveness and exploration. “PGN is committed to obtaining multi-source natural gas to maintain supply reliability while continuing to optimise domestic resources. The Sengeti Field is a manifestation of synergistic collaboration with support from the government and all stakeholders to provide benefits for the Indonesian people,” Fajriyah concluded.
