PGN targets 59,990 new gas network connections in Surabaya and Gresik
PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) is targeting the construction of new gas networks capable of serving around 59,990 house connections (SR) in Surabaya City and Gresik Regency, East Java, to be carried out during the 2025-2026 period.
“This is our effort to broaden education on the use of natural gas while encouraging the public to adopt energy that is more practical, safe, and environmentally friendly,” said PGN Sales and Operation Region (SOR) III General Manager Hedi Hedianto in Surabaya on Tuesday.
Hedi said that this year’s gas network construction targets several areas in Surabaya, including East Surabaya, Central Surabaya, West Surabaya, and parts of North Surabaya.
Public enthusiasm for the network expansion plan is also quite high, with around 36,000 subscription interest forms or requests for natural gas network installations received from residents up to August 2026.
Meanwhile, to date, Hedi said, the number of natural gas users in Surabaya City and Gresik Regency has reached around 61,000 customers, covering households, commercial users, and industry.
The natural gas network construction is being carried out in coordination with the Surabaya City Government and relevant stakeholders.
PGN has also carried out outreach to communities in the areas targeted for network construction.
Not only that, PGN is also organising the City Gas Tour 2026 in several cities such as Sidoarjo, Probolinggo, and Surabaya to continue introducing GasKita to the public.
“We continue to promote and introduce GasKita to the public, which is the delivery of natural gas through pipes to households in housing estates and small businesses within PGN’s operational areas,” said Hedi.
Hedi expressed hope that the City Gas Tour would improve public understanding of natural gas as one of the energy options for meeting daily needs.
PGN Surabaya Area Head Arief Nurrachman added that the education provided during the City Gas Tour covers not only the use of natural gas for households, the commercial sector, MSMEs, and industry, but also aspects of safety and security in using natural gas.
For residents already using natural gas, convenience and practicality are among the reasons they chose this energy source.
Sindy Wahyudi, a resident of Jojoran, Surabaya, who attended the City Gas Tour event in Surabaya’s Old Town, said she has been using natural gas for about a year because it makes cooking activities more practical, without having to worry about running out of gas.
“We have felt the benefits of using natural gas — it is cheaper and more practical. We no longer experience confusion from running out of gas, especially at night. In addition, it is safer,” said Sindy.
