PGN Supplies Natural Gas Network to Dalwa Islamic Boarding School's Communal Kitchen in Pasuruan
PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) has supplied its natural gas network to support the operational needs of the communal kitchen at the Darullughah Waddawah (Dalwa) Islamic boarding school in Pasuruan, East Java, which serves approximately 15,000 students daily.
PGN Pasuruan Area Head Mochamad Arif stated on Friday that the utilisation of natural gas is not limited to industry but can also be applied in the education sector for cooking purposes. “The use of the gas network supports the provision of meals for students in a more reliable, efficient, and sustainable manner through a 24-hour natural gas supply,” Arif said.
He noted that the Dalwa boarding school has become a strategic customer, with average consumption of around 11,000 cubic metres per month, placing it in the commercial and industrial customer category under an educational foundation. The use of the gas network is considered to offer advantages in terms of supply reliability, operational ease, cost efficiency, and safety standards through the addition of an odorant to facilitate early leak detection.
Arif further stated that total natural gas distribution in the Pasuruan area currently reaches approximately 22 to 23 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD), serving around 40,230 household and small customers as well as 127 commercial and industrial customers. “PGN, as Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, continues to expand access to clean energy in Pasuruan Regency and its surroundings, including for the education sector which plays a strategic role in community development,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of Student Affairs at Dalwa Islamic Boarding School, Ustaz Ismail Ayyub, said that the use of the gas network has helped the school save energy costs by up to 36 per cent, while also overcoming supply delays that could disrupt the provision of meals for the students.
