PGN Strengthens Resilience and Infrastructure for Energy Security
PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN), as the Gas Subholding of PT Pertamina (Persero), continues to strengthen its business resilience and natural gas infrastructure for national energy security as it approaches its 61st anniversary on 13 May 2026.
PGN Corporate Secretary Fajriyah Usman, in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, said the company is reinforcing its role as the backbone of the national natural gas infrastructure through supply strengthening, LNG development, and expansion of low-emission energy networks.
PGN is also maintaining business resilience to ensure independent and sustainable energy availability amid global energy dynamics.
“Over 61 years, PGN has continuously transformed to ensure natural gas is always available to the public through supply diversification, infrastructure strengthening, service innovation, and commitment to ESG implementation,” she said.
In the past year, PGN has recorded various strategic steps as a form of consistency in maintaining service reliability and national energy security.
The company has actively secured piped gas and domestic LNG supplies from various sources such as Tangguh and Donggi Senoro, as well as opening potential new supplies from the Masela Block, Andaman, Tungkal Working Area, coalbed methane (CBM) development in Muara Enim, to biomethane as part of future energy development.
Fajriyah continued that supply strengthening is also realised through various strategic agreements, including the signing of several gas sales and purchase agreements (PJBG) in IPA Convex 2025, West Natuna gas swap cooperation, to the HOA for LNG from the Masela Block with INPEX Masela.
The utilisation of LNG to support supply resilience is also increasing.
PGN has received additional domestic LNG supplies, and for the first time, conducted LNG cargo reception via the West Java FSRU.
PGN has also completed the revitalisation of the Arun LNG Tank F-6004 with a capacity of 127,000 m³, which is ready to operate serving the Southeast Asia and South Asia markets in line with LNG hub business development.
On the operational side, PGN’s natural gas distribution volume reached 777 BBTUD, with gas transmission volume reaching 1,539 MMSCFD in the first quarter of 2026.
Gas distribution management is carried out optimally with the main focus on maintaining customer operational sustainability amid challenges from national and global economic dynamics.
PGN is also continuing to strengthen its position as the manager of more than 95 percent of the national natural gas infrastructure and adding 230 kilometres of new pipelines to expand access to natural gas energy in various regions of Indonesia.
Infrastructure development is also strengthened through various strategic cooperations with national and international business partners.
Now, with a 91 percent market share, PGN’s operational areas cover 18 provinces and 78 cities/regencies, supported by a national natural gas pipeline network spanning 33,490 km.
“PGN is also continuing to expand beyond-pipeline services through the utilisation of retail CNG as an energy solution for communities not yet reached by the natural gas pipeline network. CNG service expansion is being carried out in various regions, including Medan through the construction of a CNG mother station and Bandung, to meet energy needs in the industrial, commercial, MSME, to hotel, restaurant, and cafe sectors,” explained Fajriyah.
The expansion of natural gas utilisation is also increasingly broad, reaching the household sector which now has more than 820,000 household connections (SR).
PGN is also expanding city gas to modern residential areas, the Wisma Atlet Kemayoran flats, to exploring new areas such as Jatengland and BSB City.
Not only that, PGN has entered the top 50 publicly listed companies with the best governance practices in ASEAN and the top 5 in Indonesia in the ASEAN Corporate Governance Awards 2025.
PGN also made it to the list of 500 Best Companies in Asia-Pacific according to TIME Magazine.
As part of the company’s social contributions, PGN continues to present community empowerment programmes and energy education through the Taman Jargas Nusantara, City Gas Tour 2025, Suadesa Festival, to the biosaline rice food security programme in the coastal area of Jepara.
“The 61st anniversary milestone is a reflection of PGN’s long journey in providing natural gas services for Indonesia. Moving forward, PGN is committed to continuing to strengthen the integration of the national natural gas infrastructure, supporting the national energy transition, and maintaining business sustainability to realise Indonesia’s energy security and independence,” said Fajriyah.
