PGN Strengthens Customer Safety Culture Through Education Programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) Sales and Operation Region (SOR) II, through its Jakarta Area, continues to strengthen the customer safety culture through the Natural Gas Subscription Safety Education Programme, implemented in a planned and sustainable manner across various service regions.
General Manager of PGN Sales and Operation Region II, Iwan Yuli Widyastanto, said safety is the top priority in every aspect of PGN’s service to customers. Through this programme, PGN ensures every customer not only receives reliable natural gas distribution services, but also understands how to use natural gas safely.
“We want every customer to understand how to use natural gas correctly, recognise potential risks early, and know the appropriate actions to take in an emergency. Safety is not only PGN’s responsibility, but also requires the active participation of all customers,” said Iwan in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.
As an implementation of the programme, PGN Jakarta Area, in cooperation with the Unit Pengelola Rumah Susun (UPRS) II and the Housing and Settlement Areas Agency of DKI Jakarta Province, held an education session for household customers at the Marunda rental flats in Marunda Village, Cilincing Subdistrict, North Jakarta.
The activity was attended by community leaders and residents of the flats who are PGN natural gas customers.
Through this activity, PGN invited customers to understand the importance of a safety culture in daily natural gas use, from recognising potential risks early, understanding preventive measures, to knowing the appropriate actions to take during emergencies.
The programme is one of the preventive approaches consistently carried out by PGN as an implementation of the Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) principle.
In addition to maintaining supply reliability, PGN is also improving customers’ safety literacy to create an increasingly safe, comfortable, and sustainable natural gas usage environment.
During the session, participants gained an understanding of natural gas use in accordance with operational standards, the division of maintenance responsibilities for installations between PGN and customers, simple methods for checking leak indicators, emergency response steps when gas odour is detected, and the use of customer service channels such as Catat Meter Mandiri, PGN Mobile, PGN WhatsApp Business, and the Pertamina Call Centre 135, accessible 24 hours a day.
Iwan said collaboration with area managers, local government, and the community is an important factor in expanding the reach of education so that a safe natural gas usage culture can be consistently applied by all customers.
On the same occasion, PGN Jakarta Area Head Mohammad Makki Nuruddin explained that this education is part of the company’s efforts to improve service quality through a preventive and educational approach.
“Through this education, we want to ensure every customer knows how to use natural gas installations correctly, understands the limits of maintenance responsibility for in-home installations, and makes use of all PGN service channels when they need information or assistance,” said Makki.
In addition to the material presentation, the activity was interactive, featuring discussion and question-and-answer sessions between customers and the PGN team.
Various questions about natural gas usage, installation maintenance, and emergency handling procedures were answered directly to strengthen customer understanding.
PGN believes a safety culture can only be realised through continuous education and collaboration among all stakeholders.
The Natural Gas Subscription Safety Education Programme will continue to be expanded to various residential areas, flats, and other service regions, as a manifestation of PGN’s commitment to delivering safe, reliable, comfortable, and sustainable natural gas services.
