PGN educates Jakarta apartment residents on natural gas safety
PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) Sales and Operation Region (SOR) II Jakarta Area provided education on natural gas safety culture through the ‘Natural Gas Subscription Safety Education’ programme for residents of public housing in the Jakarta area on Tuesday. The effort was carried out in cooperation with the Public Housing Management Unit (UPRS) II of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Public Housing and Settlement Areas Agency. ‘Safety is the core value in PGN’s service. We not only ensure that natural gas infrastructure and distribution remain reliable, but also strive to build customer awareness through continuous education,’ said PGN SOR II General Manager Iwan Yuli Widyastanto in a written statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. Iwan explained that a safety culture can only be realised through collaboration and active participation from all parties, from the local government and area managers to customers. ‘Through this programme, the community is equipped with an in-depth understanding of safe operating procedures for household natural gas installations,’ he said. This includes the division of facility maintenance roles between PGN and customers. ‘As well as simple ways to recognise potential risks and indications of gas leaks, and the appropriate and swift steps to take when facing an emergency or when a gas smell is detected,’ Iwan added. Meanwhile, PGN Jakarta Area Head Mohammad Makki Nuruddin stated that this education serves as a preventive approach to improve service quality while preventing potential disruptions early on. ‘In addition to maintaining supply reliability, we want to ensure every customer understands the boundaries of installation maintenance responsibility and is able to recognise early signs of abnormal conditions,’ Makki said. To support convenience and rapid response, PGN also introduced various digital service and complaint channels, such as the PGN Mobile application and the Self Meter Reading feature, PGN Business WhatsApp, and the Pertamina Call Centre 135. As part of Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, PGN is committed to expanding the reach of safety education to various other residential areas and public housing blocks. This step serves as an implementation of Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) principles to deliver energy services that are safe, comfortable, and sustainable for the community.
