PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) Bojonegoro Area has organised an interactive educational session for MSME players regarding the safe and optimal utilisation of natural gas. PGN aims to continue growing alongside the MSME sector, which serves as a driver for the regional economy.

This step is part of the efforts by Pertamina’s Gas Subholding to disseminate understanding regarding the characteristics of natural gas, safety culture, and initial handling procedures in the event of obstacles or incidents at business premises. The educational programme, titled “Synergy with Punctual PGN Bojonegoro Area: Realising Resilient, Energy-Efficient, and Competitive MSMEs”, was held at the Eastern Hotel, Bojonegoro, on Wednesday (22/07/2026).

In addition to introducing the efficiency and safety values of natural gas, PGN ensures that business operators can conduct their production activities with peace of mind. As a form of mutual care, PGN encourages maintaining the reliability of gas installations at business sites. Simple steps include ensuring gas pipes are at a safe distance from fire sources and electrical installations, placing gas installations in dry areas with good ventilation, and ensuring gas meters are in a secure area.

If signs of a gas leak are detected, the public is advised to remain calm. Immediate safety steps include not lighting any flames or electrical equipment, closing all gas valves, opening doors and windows to ensure airflow, and checking for leaks using soapy water on pipe connections.

PGN Bojonegoro Area Head, Faishal Arief, explained that natural gas is lighter than air, making it easy to evaporate into the atmosphere, and is not easily explosive, environmentally friendly, and enhanced with an odourant (odorant) to make leaks easily detectable. “We want to always accompany business operators. If there are issues with the gas pipe connection installation, customers can immediately close the gas valve and contact the Pertamina Call Centre at 135 or the official PGN WhatsApp service so our technical team can provide handling according to safety and security standards,” he stated.

Natural gas infrastructure is as practical and safe as common water or electricity installations. Natural gas is distributed from PGN’s main pipes to stoves or production equipment through a neatly arranged piping system on the walls. With this modern utility concept, MSME operators no longer need to manually swap gas cylinders, minimising fuel replacement risks and making kitchen areas cleaner and more compact. Faishal also expressed appreciation for the support from the Bojonegoro Regency Government.

“We are grateful to the Department of Trade, Cooperatives, and MSMEs (Disdagkop UM) and the Department of Economy and Natural Resources of the Bojonegoro Regency for their continuous synergy in promoting a progressive business climate and supporting the transition to sustainable energy use in Bojonegoro,” he added.

The event was attended by officials from the Bojonegoro Regency Trade, Cooperatives, and Micro Enterprises Department, representatives from the Regency’s Economic and Natural Resources Division, laundry business owners, MSMEs, restaurants, and the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI). Through the use of natural gas, business operators are expected to reduce operational costs while ensuring a reliable 20-hour energy supply.

Yuri Nur Rahmawati, Head of Trade Business Development at Disdagkop UM Bojonegoro, noted that the local community is eagerly awaiting the expansion of PGN’s gas network services, highlighting the advantages of stable supply and suitability for business use. Similarly, Sri Artiningsih, Chairperson of the Indonesian Women Entrepreneurs Association (IWAPI) Bojonegoro, expressed that natural gas reduces business burdens by being more economical, practical, efficient, and environmentally friendly.
