PGN Deploys Team to Handle Explosion in Grand Polonia
PT PGN (Persero) Tbk has moved swiftly to deploy its technical and emergency response teams to handle a suspected explosion incident at a resident’s house on Jalan Grand Polonia, Medan, North Sumatra, on Monday (20/7).
PGN Medan Area Head, Agus Kurniawan, expressed deep concern for those affected by the incident. He stressed that the company’s top priority is to secure the site and ensure the safety of residents in the surrounding area.
“PGN’s top priority at present is to secure the location by deploying technical and emergency response teams to shut off the gas supply and conduct a thorough inspection of the gas pipeline network,” Agus said in an official statement on Tuesday (21/7).
Based on a technical inspection carried out on the night of the incident, PGN’s team conducted gas detection in the affected area witnessed by the relevant external authorities. The examination found no natural gas leakage from PGN’s network at the location.
“The results of gas detection at the scene, including on both the first and second floors of the house concerned, showed a reading of 0 ppm. This means no methane (natural gas) content was detected in the incident area,” Agus explained.
Although the detection results showed zero readings, PGN has nevertheless taken preventive measures by temporarily shutting off the gas flow around the location to support the sterilisation of the area.
Regarding the exact cause of the explosion, PGN stated it will await the official investigation results from the police and other authorities. The company has pledged to remain cooperative throughout the inquiry process.
“We continue to coordinate intensively with local authorities and officials to ensure that handling in the field runs smoothly. We are also monitoring developments and will provide further updates,” Agus concluded.
