PGN Continues Household Gas Network Development to Reduce LPG Dependence

PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (Persero) Tbk (PGN) is demonstrating its commitment to expanding the household gas network (jargas) across Indonesia, with ongoing developments in South Tangerang City, including the areas of Bintaro Jaya, Graha Raya, and Villa Melati Mas. To date, PGN has constructed a 373-kilometre gas network in the region, currently serving approximately 11,000 customers across 126 residential clusters.

Group Head of City Gas Project at PGN, Lebiner Sinaga, stated that the company will continue building the natural gas network throughout Indonesia. He emphasised that the jargas programme is not merely about providing cooking fuel but is also a matter of national energy security, ensuring that domestic natural gas is optimally utilised for the people’s needs.

Sinaga noted that the greater the public adoption of the gas network, the more Indonesia can reduce its dependence on imported LPG. He called for support from all stakeholders to realise this National Strategic Project. Meanwhile, Project Manager for City Gas 2, Rudi Permadi, revealed that construction is set to commence soon in additional clusters within the Bintaro Jaya area and in Cipondoh, Tangerang City.

The development in the Bintaro region follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between PGN and PT Jaya Real Property Tbk in October 2022. The project, which began with a groundbreaking ceremony on 14 March 2023, is a large-scale initiative involving a total pipeline length of 352.8 kilometres, comprising 36.3 kilometres of main transmission pipes and 315.9 kilometres of low-pressure distribution pipes. Once fully operational, the network is designed to serve 35,749 household connections, along with 203 small business or UMKM customers and 38 commercial customers.
