PGI: Corruption eradication must be completed to face global crisis

Jakarta - The head of the Communion of Churches in Indonesia (PGI), Reverend Jacklevyn Frits Manuputty, has stated that corruption eradication within the country must be completed if Indonesia wishes to compete at the global level, particularly amid the crisis involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Manuputty expressed concern that it would be regrettable if Indonesia failed to make an impact on the global landscape, whether in political, social, or economic terms. However, to achieve this level, strong internal foundations must be built domestically.

He emphasised that the Indonesian people must also possess collective pride in their existence, by providing constructive criticism for national progress.

“PGI, in its position, will continue to be a critical partner to the government. If there are matters that need to be criticised, we will convey them as a form of love for the nation. It is not merely criticism, but also accompanied by constructive input,” he said.

He stressed that every criticism conveyed by society is not a rejection of development, but rather oversight of irregularities in the implementation of government projects, particularly those related to National Strategic Projects (PSN).

“In supporting the PSN, we must also prevent the seizure of customary land and protect the rights of local communities,” he explained.

Manuputty emphasised that the church organisation wishes to ensure that society is involved in the development process, particularly in providing input that contributes to national progress.
