Geothermal energy is one of the renewable energy sources with considerable potential in Indonesia, with an estimated capacity of approximately 24 GW.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) has introduced share investment opportunities in the clean energy sector to young people through collaboration with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) and Indonesia Stock Exchange (BEI).

PGE’s Manager of Partnership & Portfolio Management, Lufan Nassya Faswara, stated in Jakarta on Friday that the energy sector, particularly renewable energy, has strong long-term prospects as global demand for low-emission energy increases.

“Geothermal energy is one of the renewable energy sources with very significant potential in Indonesia, approximately 24 GW. Indonesia’s geological location along active volcanic rings makes geothermal resources abundant and promising for development as clean energy and as a long-term investment opportunity,” Lufan said.

He assessed that global commitment to energy transition, including through international agreements to reduce carbon emissions, is driving increased demand for reliable, stable, and sustainable energy sources.

“PGE believes that young people’s involvement in understanding investment and energy transition will be an important factor in supporting national economic growth in the future,” he stated.

From the capital market perspective, BEI’s Vice Director of Research, Verdi Ikhwan, emphasised the importance of building investment habits early as part of healthy financial planning.

“Investment is important because inflation occurs every year. Through investment, money can grow and will not be eroded by rising prices. If done consistently, share investment can provide optimal returns in the long term through the compounding effect,” Verdi explained.

“Before investing, it is important to understand your financial condition, risks, and investment objectives. Investment decisions should be made wisely and strategically to avoid problems in the future,” he added.

The collaboration between PGE, OJK, and BEI is being carried out partly through a Youth Seminar entitled “Making Money from Energy Shares,” held at Parahyangan Catholic University (Unpar) in Bandung this week.

The seminar also featured academic perspectives on the importance of understanding business fundamentals before purchasing shares, including assessing the industry sector prospects that form the basis of company operations.
