Kediri - Pabrik Gula (PG) Ngadirejo in Kediri Regency, East Java, is welcoming the 2026 milling season with the “Cethik Geni” ritual, in hopes that the upcoming milling process runs smoothly and meets its targets.

General Manager of PG Ngadirejo, Wayan Mei Purwono, stated on Friday that this ritual is part of the slow firing or gradual combustion in the boiler.

“This is to increase the temperature gradually and evenly, or in Javanese terms ‘Cethik Geni’, signalling that PG Ngadirejo is ready to welcome the 2026 milling season. Lit on this Jumat Legi, with the hope that our sugarcane is truly ‘Legi’ (sweet) and blessed,” he said in Kediri.

He added that various agendas leading up to the 2026 milling season have already been scheduled. On Saturday, 25 April 2026, PG Ngadirejo will conduct the inaugural “Pethik Tebu” before the widespread harvest takes place.

According to the schedule, sugarcane will begin entering the factory on 8 May 2026 and continue until the harvest and milling are complete.

“Insya Allah, sugarcane will enter on 8 May 2026, and on 9 May 2026, PG Ngadirejo will start milling,” said Wayan.

The company revealed that for the 2026 milling season, PG Ngadirejo will mill 11 million quintals of sugarcane, with a rendemen of 7.5 percent. From this amount, it is hoped to produce 82,500 tonnes of sugar.

“This is a fantastic target; may it be achieved through collective effort with farmers and all involved parties,” he said.

Meanwhile, Installation Manager of PG Ngadirejo, Marsis Bintoro, added that for the “Cethik Geni” ritual, the company has prepared 400 tonnes of bagasse as fuel.

With this fuel ready, PG Ngadirejo is prepared to conduct the steam test or General Test.

He said that going forward, PG Ngadirejo will continue to increase its stock of bagasse fuel. According to needs, for the milling process, the boiler requires 600-700 tonnes of bagasse.

“And we are ready to welcome a successful 2026 milling season,” said Marsis.
