PG Ngadirejo Kediri Targets 80,000 Ton Sugar Production to Support Self-Sufficiency
Kediri (ANTARA) - The Ngadirejo Sugar Factory in Kediri Regency, East Java, targets milling 11 million quintals of sugarcane to produce 80,000 tonnes of sugar in the 2026 milling season to support national sugar self-sufficiency.
“PG Ngadirejo’s target for the 2026 milling is to process 11 million quintals of sugarcane. Hopefully, we can achieve 80,000 tonnes of sugar,” said General Manager of PG Ngadirejo in Kediri Regency, Wayan Mei Purwono, during the milling thanksgiving ceremony at the PG Ngadirejo site in Kediri Regency on Saturday.
He added that the 2026 sugarcane milling target is an increase compared to the 2025 target. For 2025, the target was 10.6 million quintals of sugarcane with a realisation of 70,000 tonnes, which has now risen. The achievement of this target is also expected to support national sugar self-sufficiency.
Wayan expressed optimism that the target can be realised. The company has partnered with farmers from upstream to downstream, ensuring good harvest results.
“We partner with farmers from on-farm to off-farm, from upstream to downstream, from land preparation to cultivation costs up to sugar and molasses sales. We continuously guide them, ensuring that farmers cultivating sugarcane do not incur losses,” he said.
The milling process at PG Ngadirejo in Kediri Regency, he said, will last around 200 days. Sugarcane is supplied by farmers from regions including Kediri, Blitar, and Malang.
The company involves hundreds of locals as workers and drivers for the milling process.
Meanwhile, the pre-milling thanksgiving ceremony was conducted with the “Manten tebu” tradition. A pair of women and men were dressed like Javanese brides and carried sugarcane. They also carried kembar mayang, similar to Javanese wedding customs.
The procession initially paraded around the company area accompanied by gamelan music. The sugarcane carried by the group was then handed over to the company management, signifying the start of the 2026 milling season. This was followed by a jaranan arts performance.
Afterwards, the event continued with a visit to the factory site to inspect preparations ahead of the 2026 milling season.
