The lack of structural certainty and an integrated ecosystem has been a major obstacle for Indonesia in attracting smart money on a massive scale.

In response to this challenge, the Indonesian International Financial Centre (PFII) is now being prepared not merely as a physical zone, but as a leap forward in the innovation of the national financial architecture.

Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of BKPM, Rosan Roeslani, revealed that investor interest in this ambitious project has exceeded expectations. At a meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali, the enthusiasm was clearly visible from the overflowing attendance.

“We invited 70 for Asia but 110 came and the response, alhamdulillah, I can say was actually very positive,” said Rosan during a press conference on the RAPBN and Financial Note for the 2027 Fiscal Year in Jakarta, Friday (14/08/2026).

Structural Innovation: Pursuing Global Standards through Financial Technology

The main focus of the PFII is not merely the provision of tax incentives, but the development of a credible ecosystem.

Top-tier investors and family offices demand a framework that is transparent, secure, and technologically efficient. Without a globally recognised structure, investor confidence is difficult to build.

Minister Rosan stressed that careful planning is being developed together with the Ministry of Finance to ensure the PFII has international competitiveness on a par with the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) or other financial centres.

“Of course, they also want to see that the structure and format of this PFII truly conforms to world standards,” Rosan emphasised.

Dual-Hub Strategy: Jakarta for Momentum, Bali for the Future

As a tactical step, the government has decided to begin PFII operations in Jakarta. The choice of Jakarta is based on the readiness of existing digital infrastructure and connectivity, enabling a rapid working momentum in line with the President’s direction.

However, the long-term vision remains focused on Bali as a more exclusive financial centre with lifestyle advantages.

Development in Bali will take longer because it requires the construction of more complex supporting infrastructure.

Danantara Indonesia, under Rosan’s leadership, will play a crucial role as the architect of the physical development and supporting facilities.

“The initial location is indeed Jakarta first. Why? Because the President wants everything to start working immediately, there is momentum. Although later there are also plans for Bali, because in Bali the development will take time to build the infrastructure, the buildings, and other things,” Rosan explained.
