PFII May Operate in Jakarta During Transition Period Before Bali Launch
Investment and Downstreaming Minister/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani has revealed that the Indonesian International Financial Centre (PFII) has the potential to begin operating in Jakarta during a transition period, before eventually being developed as an international financial hub in Bali. According to him, the process towards becoming a world-class financial centre is estimated to take around two to three years.
Speaking to reporters at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Thursday, Rosan said President Prabowo Subianto has requested that the establishment of the PFII be followed up immediately after the House of Representatives (DPR RI) passed the PFII Bill into law during a plenary session on Tuesday, 21 July 2026.
“Indeed, the plan is for it to be built in Bali. But preparations are needed, perhaps for two or three years, until it becomes an international-standard financial centre,” said Rosan, who also serves as CEO of Danantara Indonesia.
“Perhaps during this transition period, in the next two to three years, it might be set up first in Jakarta, during this transition period, before it is further developed, possibly in Jakarta and also in Bali,” he added.
He also stated that he had met with a number of prospective investors to discuss the establishment of the PFII. According to him, the response received from investors regarding the plan to form the financial centre has been quite positive.
Previously, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa targeted the PFII to begin operations in 2026.
“We will see, the Government Regulation and everything else have not yet been drafted. We expect the regulations to be completed within six months,” said Purbaya after attending a press conference on the July 2026 edition of the state budget in Jakarta on Tuesday.
