Pezeshkian: Khamenei Urged End to 'No War, No Peace' Situation
Istanbul (ANTARA) - Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, repeatedly stressed in closed meetings the need to end the “no war, no peace” situation — prolonged tension without open military confrontation, but also without any improvement in relations or peace — between Iran and the United States.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian made the statement on Tuesday (21 July).
Khamenei, who led Iran for nearly 36 years, was killed in a combined United States and Israeli attack on 28 February, which marked the start of the joint US-Israeli assault on Tehran.
Speaking at a ceremony marking National Industry and Mining Day, Pezeshkian praised Khamenei’s leadership in shaping Iran’s strategic direction, particularly regarding efforts to end the uncertain situation between conflict and peace, according to the official IRNA news agency.
“The Supreme Leader stressed in closed meetings ending the condition of ‘no war, no peace’,” Pezeshkian said.
He said Iran entered negotiations “based on the honour, wisdom, and dignity of the nation”. He added that the government’s diplomatic efforts were aimed at protecting the nation’s interests.
“Our diplomatic institutions will never retreat in defending the rights of the Iranian people,” Pezeshkian said.
On Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Tehran had received a number of proposals from mediators aimed at easing tensions with the United States, while reaffirming Iran’s commitment to diplomacy amid the exchange of fire between Washington and Tehran.
The United States has intensified its attacks on Iran since last week. Iran has responded by launching strikes on facilities and bases claimed to be used by the US military in several countries in the region.
The exchanges between the United States and Iran have occurred despite both countries previously signing a memorandum of understanding, mediated by Pakistan in June, to end the war and reach a sustainable peace agreement.
