Pezeshkian: Iran-US Peace MoU Aligns with Tehran's Interests
Tehran (ANTARA) - Iranian President Masoud Peemuan Pezeshkian stated on Saturday (29/8) that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for peace signed between Iran and the United States is beneficial to the interests of the country, West Asia, and the world.
During a ceremony in Tehran, he asserted that through the implementation of the MoU, the US and Israel would be unable to instigate chaos, aggression, and insecurity in the region, allowing regional nations to pursue a path towards stability and development, according to statements published on his office’s website.
Pezeshkian highlighted the necessity of thwarting the “evil plans of enemies” by promoting unity and solidarity among Muslim nations.
He stated that Iran has never been the party to initiate war, adding, “We do not want war, but we will firmly resist any aggressor, and no force can compel a steadfast nation, standing with all its strength and determination, to surrender.”
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi warned via a social media post on Saturday (29/8) that “massive” efforts are being made to manipulate global energy markets for personal gain and to prolong the US war against Iran.
Separately, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on the same day that the country’s security forces had dealt a “heavy blow” to a “terrorist” group affiliated with the US and Israel in the Sistan and Baluchestan province in southeastern Iran, killing one member of the group and arresting six others.
On 28 February, Israel and the US launched joint attacks against Tehran and other cities in Iran.
Iran responded with waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israel as well as US bases and assets in the region, while tightening control over the Strait of Hormuz.
On 18 June, the US and Iran signed an MoU to end war on all fronts in the region. Under the MoU, both parties were scheduled to conduct negotiations within a 60-day period, ending on 17 August, to reach a final agreement.
However, the fate of these negotiations remains uncertain following the escalation between the two nations last month.
