Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday (16/8) that Iran reached the recent peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United States with full dignity and strength, while still considering the principles outlined by former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

The statement was made during a meeting attended by Iranian Education Minister Alireza Kazemi, as the president voiced his support for the MoU signed by Iran and the US on 18 June to end the war in the region, according to a statement released by his office.

“We pursued the recent agreement with strength and did not surrender to our enemies,” Pezeshkian said.

He said that the MoU was drafted after careful consideration and in-depth discussions with experts.

In a statement on Saturday (15/8), Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf described the peace MoU as proof of Iran’s glory and victory, and in line with efforts to consolidate the country’s victory in the field of diplomacy, as reported by Iran’s official news agency, IRNA.

Under the MoU, Iran and the US are scheduled to hold negotiations within a 60-day period ending on Monday (17/8) to reach a final agreement. However, the continuation of the negotiations remains uncertain following the escalation between the two countries in recent weeks.
