Pezeshkian: Iran Facing Worst Conditions in Economic War

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has asserted that his country is currently facing the “worst conditions” in the economic war. Nevertheless, Pezeshkian confirmed that all national development projects are continuing despite the heavy pressure of international sanctions.

Pezeshkian highlighted how the public often focuses only on military escalation while ignoring the equally severe economic blows. “Although we are facing the worst conditions in the economic war, everyone sees the missile war, but perhaps not everyone sees the economic pressure. Nevertheless, work continues, and this deserves appreciation,” Pezeshkian said as reported by the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) on Wednesday (26/8).

Pezeshkian expressed appreciation to all parties involved in completing various strategic infrastructure projects amid the conflict. According to him, these achievements symbolise the extraordinary resilience of the Iranian nation. “Perhaps under normal conditions we would not have been able to achieve this much,” Pezeshkian stressed.

To address the economic burden, Pezeshkian is optimistic that Iran can overcome these difficult times through strengthening public solidarity, increasing accountability among officials, and massively involving the private sector and investors. “I am confident we can work much better. With the solidarity and support of the people, the accountability of officials, and the participation of the private sector and investors, we can quickly overcome the country’s various problems,” he added.

The economic pressure gripping Tehran stems from the United States’ decision in 2018 to unilaterally withdraw from the 2015 nuclear deal (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action/JCPOA). Since that withdrawal, Washington has reimposed its “maximum pressure” campaign against Tehran. US economic sanctions have continued to expand, targeting Iran’s main oil export commodities, the banking and financial sector, and the country’s international trade networks.
