Jakarta (ANTARA) — Peugeot has unveiled the E-T16 concept, a high-performance electric car inspired by the Group B-era 205 T16 rally legend. It produces up to 805 hp and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds.

According to a report by Top Gear on Monday (12 October), the concept combines the aggressive character of 1980s rally cars with modern electrification technology. It has three electric motors and a drive system that can adjust torque distribution to suit conditions and driving modes.

The Peugeot 205 T16 became a world rally icon after helping the French manufacturer win the World Rally Championship (WRC) constructors’ title in consecutive years, in 1985 and 1986.

Unlike its predecessor, which used a turbocharged combustion engine, the E-T16 relies on one electric motor at the front and two at the rear.

The vehicle’s settings include suspension and power delivery, with a Track mode for a more aggressive driving character.

The concept car uses an 85 kWh NMC battery and an 800-volt electrical architecture. With 350 kW fast charging, the battery is claimed to charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 15 minutes. Its WLTP range is 248 miles, or about 399 kilometres.

A vertical hydraulic handbrake has also been retained as a nod to the car’s rally character.

In terms of design, the E-T16 features a wide body, a bonnet with two large air intakes and a distinctive rear wing. Its Gris Winchester grey colour pays tribute to its predecessor. The rear section opens to reveal the electric motors and carbon structure.

The concept’s cabin features a 21-inch panoramic screen and a Hypersquare steer-by-wire steering system, which eliminates the conventional mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels.

Although its performance specifications have been revealed, the report did not confirm whether the E-T16 will enter mass production. The concept offers a glimpse of how the legacy of a legendary rally car could be reimagined for the electric era.
