Petronas to boost presence in RI

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's national oil firm Petronas is likely to
become a major supplier of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to power
plants on Java island in a move that would boost its presence in
Indonesia, a report said Monday.

Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) was in talks to supply LNG
to power plants owned by Indonesia's PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara
(PLN), the New Straits Times said, quoting sources.

Petronas has been tipped to become a LNG supplier to PLN's new
LNG re-gasification terminal in Cilegon in west Java which is
expected to start operations in 2007, and to other power plants
on the island, the newspaper said.

The group was also expected to sign a 147-million-dollar deal
with PLN this month to deliver LNG to the Tambak Lorok 200
Megawatt plant which powers Semarang, the capital of central
Java, it said. -- AFP
