Petronas says 'no' to French climber
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP): National oil company, Petroliam Nasional
Bhd is against any attempt by French climber Alain Robert to
scale the Petronas tower citing the building is not designed to
be climbed from the outside, a junior minister said yesterday.
He said Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad is in favor of the 34-
year-old Alain Robert to climb the world's tallest building but
Petronas was hesitating.
The organizers of the charity climb expect Robert to climb the
building on April 6. Proceeds from the climb would be donated to
the AIDS Foundation, Heart Foundation, World Assembly of Youth's
Micro-Credit Foundation and the KL Hospital Patient's Fund.
The two 88-story towers are owned by Petronas. On Wednesday,
the building operators, had turned down the request to scale the
building.
