Petronas LNG plant on line

KUALA LUMPUR (UPI): Petronas, Malaysia's national petroleum
company, expected its second US$7.5 billion liquefied natural gas
(LNG) plant to begin production in January, Chairman Azizan
Zainal Abidin said yesterday.

"Construction of the LNG plant started in March 1992. Overall
progress to date is 85 percent. We should be able to begin
commissioning the first of the three trains in January 1995, two
months ahead of schedule," Azizan said.

"The entire Lng2 project is expected to be commissioned by
November 1995, four months ahead of schedule," he said.

Based on the success and experience gained in implementing the
two Lng projects, Petronas is confident that its third Lng
venture, which may begin in 2000, will be equally successful, he
said.

Azizan said Petronas has finalized arrangements for the sale
of Lng from the second plant to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.

"The first agreement, with South Korea, will be signed in
July," he said, adding similar contracts with Japan and Taiwan
will be sealed later.
