The teeth of a fuel station (SPBU) operator at SPBU 3413901 in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, Abud Mahmudin (28), were broken after he was beaten by a suspect believed to be a member of the security apparatus.

“My tooth was snapped in half, unevenly. It bled because the nerve was hit when I was struck on the cheek,” Abud said when met at SPBU 3413901 in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, on Tuesday.

The man, who has worked approximately four years as a fuel station operator, said he did not know precisely how the altercation at his workplace began.

When the incident occurred, he had merely intended to observe the situation after hearing a commotion at the front of the station.

“I didn’t know how it started. I just wanted to see what was happening, just being curious because there was a disturbance. It was my workplace, after all,” Abud said.

According to him, a colleague had first become embroiled in a dispute and was slapped by the perpetrator.

Seeing his colleague being struck, Abud instinctively moved closer. However, he maintained that he neither spoke nor became involved in the argument.

“I was just watching, didn’t say a word. But I was the one who got singled out,” Abud said.

He stated that the perpetrator pointed at him before throwing a punch. The first blow struck the area around his eye, leaving him dizzy and disoriented.

“The first hit was to my eye, a punch. I felt quite dizzy too,” Abud said.

The assault did not stop there. The perpetrator approached him again and struck his cheek and the area above and behind his ear. The blows caused serious damage to the victim’s mouth.

“The pain got worse, especially since my tooth ended up broken,” Abud said.

As a result of the injuries, he said he has difficulty eating and speaking. Even when breaking his fast during Ramadan, he experiences considerable pain.

“It’s hard to eat. Breaking fast is difficult too. Even talking still causes a sharp pain,” Abud said.

He confirmed that he had undergone a forensic medical examination on Monday (22 February) at approximately 14:00 Western Indonesian Time at the Police Hospital in Kramat Jati. After the examination, he went to another hospital for medical treatment.

Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) are investigating the alleged assault on three petrol station employees in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta by the suspected security official.

Head of Public Relations at Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said that during the investigation, his team is also looking into the identity of the official suspected of being the perpetrator.

“The East Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Directorate of General Crimes at Polda Metro Jaya are investigating the incident and the person who claimed to be an official,” Budi told reporters on Tuesday (24 February).

Separately, Head of Internal Affairs (Propam) at Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Radjo Alriadi Harahap, said his division is also involved in the investigation due to the suspected involvement of a security official.

“We are still investigating with the Criminal Investigation Unit of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police regarding the perpetrator of the assault in question,” he said.

In this incident, three petrol station employees are alleged to have been victims of assault by a rogue official.

The incident took place on Sunday evening (22 February) at approximately 22:00 Western Indonesian Time. The three victims comprised one staff member and two operators.

The three victims are Ahmad Khoirul Anam, who has worked approximately five years as a staff member; Lukmanul Hakim, an operator who had only been working for six months after graduating from vocational school; and Abud Mahmudin, an operator with approximately four years of service.

Khoirul Anam was slapped on the cheek, Lukman was punched on the right side of his jaw, whilst Abud was struck below the eye and on the cheek near his mouth, causing his tooth to come out.

The owner of SPBU 3413901, Ernesta, confirmed that she had directly reported the assault on her employees to the Pulogadung Police Station.

“We have also reported it to the Pulo Gadung Police Station opposite the petrol station, and my injured employees have already undergone forensic medical examinations,” Ernesta said when contacted in Jakarta on Monday (23 February).

The Internal Affairs Division (Propam) of Polda Metro Jaya has also been known to have visited SPBU 3413901, located in the Cipinang area of East Jakarta, in connection with the assault case.
