PetroChina shuts well after fire, leak
JAKARTA: PetroChina Co., Asia's biggest oil company, has shut
a gas well it operates in Indonesia's Jabung field in Sumatra
after a fire and a leak but there has been no damage or injuries,
Budi Setiadi, vice-president of PetroChina's Indonesian unit,
said.
"The well has been closed. There has been no disruption to
production as the well was still under test," he said on
Thursday.
Trijana Kartoatmodjo, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Implementing
Body (BP Migas) deputy of operations, said on April 1 that gas
was still leaking at the Gemah-21 well after a fire had been put
out.
The blowout occurred at a time when prospective employees were
visiting the company's site, he said.
PetroChina and Malaysia's state-owned Petroliam Nasional Bhd.
each owns 30 percent of the Jabung field. Indonesia's state oil
company PT Pertamina has a 10 percent stake. -- Bloomberg
